Course Journal/Playbooks

Objectives:
To consolidate your learning and reflect on the application of course material in your professional context. Consider this journal as a future reference tool. Ensure that you organize and format the content in a way that will be easy for you to navigate and understand when you revisit it later in your career (and such that I can appreciate your insights as I do my review).
Instructions:
Journal Format: Your journal should be a digital document that allows for the integration of text, weblinks, and multimedia (e.g., Google Docs, Microsoft OneNote) -- [note the default final upload is .docx or .pdf - if you choose to go with a different approach, check with me first and then upload a .docx or .pdf that links to the agreed upon material]. Your submission is a single document. This journal can be more narrative and free-form than your resource contributions. Your journal can include summaries, questions, insights, and personal experiences. Your journal can go beyond factual content to include personal interpretations and applications. There is no minimum or maximum length for this assignment. However, it should be comprehensive and detailed enough to demonstrate your understanding and application of the course material.
Content Coverage: The journal should cover, at least, these topics:
-
Leader as Team Member
-
Leader as Designer
- Leader as Champion
For each topic, include, at least, the following:
-
Key Learnings: Bullet points of key concepts, theories, or skills learned. You can cut and paste from my module material if you cite the course at the top of the document. Any cutting/pasting from other authors' or sites' material must be footnoted with a full reference (not just a URL).
(e.g., Holton III, E. F., Robinson, P. A. et al. (2020). The adult learner: The definitive classic in adult education and human resource development. Routledge.) -
Additional Resources: Include the weblinks you’ve collected throughout the course and a sentence or two explaining their value. I suggest you start by copying and pasting from each of your resource contributions.
-
Application: Briefly comment on how the material applies to your professional setting. This could include potential challenges, benefits, or insights you’ve gained.
-
AI Application: Leverage AI as you see fit. At the end of the document, provide one paragraph that describes how you leveraged AI (or did not) with your brief reasoning. Did you build a GPT or other trained model on your material? (I'm just curious.)
Evaluation:
This assignment will be evaluated based on the completeness of the content coverage, reflection, and the connection of the course material with real-world applications. One way to approach the assignment is to build it out as you take your notes, complete the quizzes and assignments, and offer resource contributions in the discussions—but instead of notes, think of it as "journaling"—so more reflection and extension. See the rubric below.
Note
This assignment is grounded in the principles of adult learning theory, which emphasize self-directed learning, the practical application of knowledge, and learning through reflection. It’s designed to help you consolidate your learning and discover its relevance to your work.
